12 Days of Brumotions: Ben Haenow – ‘Something I Need’

On the 3rd day of Christmas, Brumotions gave to you…

A Ben Haenow single review

Ben-Haenow

This weekend saw the final of X Factor 2014, a series which has seen highs, lows, 8 boys standing in a row, oh and Stevi Ritchie.

X Factor season 11 has been hotly contested from the outset and climaxed to a competitive final between Ben ‘Sexy Rock God’ Haenow and Fleur ‘She’s got it all’ East!

Like the rest of the British nation, us Brumoters were left on the edge of our seats and we just couldn’t call the outcome.

After an array of stellar performances, Ben was crowned X Factor king, with his winner’s song – ‘Something I need’ which was originally penned by One Republic!

Something I need is a perfect track to showcase the raspy, yet soulful tone of Ben’s voice, which we loved from his initial audition.
Compared to the original, Ben’s version is just that little bit more upbeat and is one of those tracks you find yourself singing in the shower or after having one too many drinks at Christmas.

The Question is, will it achieve Christmas Number One, or will Ben get pushed from the top spot by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ newest collaboration Uptown Funk.

The single is available to DOWNLOAD NOW!

Syco will be donating 100% of it’s profits from the single to ‘Together for short lives’ – So get your copy now!

12 Days of Brumotions: Union J – ‘You got it all’ Album Review

On the 1st day of Christmas, Brumotions gave to you….

A Union J Album Review!

Union J - You Got It All

JJ, Jaymi, Josh and George are back with their second studio album, which we have already fallen in love with.

‘You got it all’, which shares it’s title with one of the tracks featured on the new album, was released on December 8th and we’ve had it on repeat ever since!

Check out our track by track review of Union J’s new release below!

Tonight (We Live Forever)

After catching the lads performing this energetic track at Fusion Festival earlier this year, this was definitely a great way for the lads to kick off their second studio album – It shows the Union J boys at their finest – Four young lads living their dream and having fun whilst doing so. We love it!

You Got It All

You Got It All is our favourite power ballad from the album! – Written by Canadian genius Nasri from Magic! (You know, the lads that wrote the UK chart topping track: Rude!) – although we weren’t sure how this track would fit on the album as the lads are more known for their energetic singles, we were definitely pleasantly surprise – especially after their stunning X Factor performance and undeniable vocal talent.

All about a Girl

Initially, this track reminds us of an old school 90s boyband track (our childhood right there!) with a Union J twist and we think it’s incredible… we also like to imagine it’s written about us, but that’s another story.

We currently have the incredibly catchy chorus stuck in our heads and have been walking around singing Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na for the past few hours, which makes us pretty excited to hear this track live.

One More Time

One More Time brings the party vibe that was missing in the first three songs, while also ensuring to display the amazing vocals that the lads have. It is slightly odd to be featured on this album though, as we’re nearing the end of the year, but this track speaks about the end of Summer, but it’s still a great song to celebrate the nearing of the New Year and will obviously make it on our end of year soundtrack! We would love to see this track released as the group’s next single.

Together

It’s already an obvious crowd pleaser and we cannot WAIT to hear this track live. Together is a fun loving, edgier sounding track about having fun and living life to the fullest.

I Can’t Make You Love Me

Although About A Girl sounded like a 90s track, I Can’t Make You Love Me truly IS a 90s track. That’s right! Union J have recorded their own version of the 90s country pop single, originally released by Bonnie Raitt. But like all of the tracks on the new album, the lads have placed their own stamp on the song and it sounds incredible!

She’s in my Head

This track screams Union J; it’s energetic, hyper and features incredible vocals and harmonies! It’s definitely a lot more edgier than we were expecting from the lads, but it fits the rest of the album perfectly!

Midnight Train

Once again, we’re faced with another incredible track that we’d like to imagine the gorgeous lads from Union J had written about us. We can definitely see this song being amazing during a live performance as it sets a great atmosphere.

I Love to Watch You Sleep

Who doesn’t want to imagine sharing a bed with Union J? We volunteer!

In this track, we see the lads turn into our very own Prince Charming(s) in this ballad, which has us (and we would be guessing you too) swooning over the handsome lads. It reminds us of a lullaby with the soft, crooning vocals that are very easy on the ears.

Central Park

On the other side of the spectrum, we have Central Park which is a slower song about heartbreak.

Although the lyrics explain a sad story, we absolutely love this track as it shows the more emotional side of these lads.

Girl Like You

This track is a Brumotions favourite; it’s upbeat, fun and has a real feel good atmosphere. Girl Like You will be perfect to brighten up those dull winter mornings and a track you will find yourself playing on repeat and singing in the shower.

YOLO

YOLO!

We’re glad that YOLO means ‘You Only Live Once’ because we wouldn’t be able to only listen to this song! It’s a great addictive and hyper track, however, we can’t help but feel that it would’ve been better to be released back when YOLO was still a thing.

Get It Right

This song gets a little lost within the powerful pop tracks on the album; however, we were excited to hear JJ’s vocals on the track, which we feel should feature more throughout the album. We weren’t overly impressed with this song, though we do want to ask “can we please have more singing parts from JJ?!”

Song for You and I

This track is a nice end for the album as its cheesy pop at it’s finest! Josh really jumps and succeeds at the opportunity to show off his smooth vocals and the entire song makes us smile and sing along. However, we believe that one of the previous tracks would have been the much better choice to finish the album.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

This one was released at the perfect time! And it’s great to hear Union J’s take on this centuries old classic! It’s a great festive track, which we will definitely have on repeat up until the New Year… at least until next Christmas.

Overall, the album is pure and powerful pop at its best and we’re absolutely in love with it! The whole album is inoffensive, features incredible lyrics and vocals and is great to dance around to. However, we can’t help but think a few of the tracks are lost among the other incredible ones.

Let us know what you think!

Don’t give up on The Maine!

Last night, The Maine returned to the UK and impressed their highly dedicated fans at their show at the O2 Academy2 in Birmingham with an incredible performance!

The American band from Arizona came to Birmingham as part of the UK leg of the 8123 tour and two of our Brumoters got the chance to catch up with The Maine’s bassist Garrett Nickelsen and lead guitarist Jared Monaco, the interview for which will be available on October 13th!

the maine tour

The group consisting of Pat Kirch, Kennedy Brock, John O’Callaghan, Jared Monaco and Garrett Nickelsen (Left to Right) entertained all the fans that had packed themselves into the venue, with a range of old and new tracks, including ‘Misery’ and ‘Kiss and Sell.’

But before the lads graced the stage with their amazing performance, Nick Santino (ex-frontman for A Rocket to the Moon) and Lydia wowed the crowd with their support sets.

Although it was his first ever tour in the UK, Nick Santino had no nerves seeming to hold him back as his incredible stage presence held the audience’s attention throughout the entirety of his acoustic performance.

Lydia took the stage next, bringing with them an unbelievable amount of energy that left the crowd wanting more as they made sure to sing the lyrics back to the ecstatic group.

the maine group

Then came the moment everybody had been waiting for, The Maine finally took to the stage causing the venue to erupt into cheers, obviously excited to see the lads pop across the pond once again as they broke out into a number of old and new tracks.

The lads’ energetic set featured a number of fan favourites and the only time the group slowed down was to interact and chat to their ecstatic and loud fans (though many ‘accent’ issues arose, like when lead singer John O’Callaghan mistook the words “Pretty Good” as “Grand Canyon” when speaking about their home state).

the maine

The highly talented band made sure to perform their hearts out and ensured that all those attending the event were thoroughly entertained, which rang true when the lads began to discuss a potential album release next year!

The Maine rounded off their incredible performance with a track from their first studio album in 2008: ‘We’ll All Be’, for which, both Nick Santino and Lydia graced the stage once again to help The Maine out and end the show with a bang!

We definitely recommend going to see The Maine live as they have the talent and an impressive setlist, which should have another few hits joining in as the lads are set to hit the recording studio next month! We have no doubts, that like they did last night, the group will keep you thoroughly entertained and leave you wanting more!

This uptempo track is a perfect summer anthem, which we know you will be blasting for a while.

Kingsland Road are Dirty Dancing into our hearts!

Kingsland Road impressed their dedicated fans at their SOLD OUT show at the O2 Academy in Birmingham last night with a jam packed, energetic performance!

The East London formed group came to Birmingham as part of their debut tour across the UK.

Four support acts were included during the gig, acoustic performers Jess Havens and Ellie Rose’s vocals wowed the sold out crowd during their own twenty minute sets!

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for, Kingsland Road ran onto the stage and performed ‘Walk Away’, a track set to appear on their EP, which their highly dedicated fans had already learnt the lyrics to and proceeded to shout them back to the ecstatic lads.

The boys incredible set featured tracks for both the old and new fans, including a small, hilarious performance of ‘My Dog’ for the older fans and a cover of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Burn’, which was posted to their YouTube channel in February.

The group, more popularly known for appearing on the tenth series of The X Factor, had the packed venue singing and dancing along throughout their entire performance, ensuring that everyone was thoroughly entertained!

Kingsland Road rounded off their incredible performance with their debut single ‘Dirty Dancer’, which is another track to feature on the groups debut EP!

We definitely recommend going to see Kingsland Road live as they have the talent (both singing and dancing) and an impressive setlist, which is without a doubt, going to take them far. OneRepublic – ‘Love Runs Out’

love runs out

American pop-rock band OneRepublic are back with their incredible new track ‘Love Runs Out’, which will be released in the UK on August 3rd.

The track was originally intended to be the first single on the group’s third album Native, but the release was delayed due to the track not having a chorus written. But the wait has been worth it as the track is incredible and released just in time for the Summer!

If you’ve been keeping up to date with our amazing Playlists of the Week, you would’ve seen this incredible track included in a Playlist back in June!

onerepublic

‘Love Runs Out’ is completely different to the incredible tracks that this chart-topping group have released before and yet it’s just as incredible and catchy as those tracks that we’re sure we’ll be blasting it for a while.

The track’s pace reminds us heavily of Kanye West’s track Love Lockdown, however, singer Ryan Tedder brings a touch of uniqueness with his incredible vocals, which makes this track a touch more addictive to listen to it on repeat!

The tune has a minimalistic, 70s rock and soul vibe driving the track with Tedder showcasing the vocal acrobatics that have made the group a popular household name.

onerepublic 2

‘Love Runs Out’ is the perfect track for OneRepublic to debut a new sound to their audience as it will no doubt be successful!

The group are incredibly talented and we believe they will reach great success with their newest track and we wish them all the best!

‘Love Runs Out’ is available for pre-order and is out August 3rd!

Richard Rawson ft Tom Parker – ‘Fireflies’

fireflies cover art

After the disbanding of N-Dubz and an eye opening life style change – Fazer aka Richard Rawson is back with his debut solo single – Fireflies, under his own name, producing the music he always wanted to make.

Rawson’s rap is insightful, personal and alongside the melodic piano undertones gives us a look into the stars past; the highs and the lows, whilst likening his journey to that of a firefly, which leaves you wanting to keep listening to find out more.

“I swear I’m like a firefly,
I require darkness in order to shine”

Fireflies has an extremely catchy and memorable chorus which is sang by ex- The Wanted hottie Tom Parker and is his first solo appearance after the band announced an extended hiatus earlier in the year.

“As I stare across the sky
I see nothing but a million fireflies
reminding me that I can make my light shine
it’s not over, over, over”

fireflies

Tom’s strong vocals bring something that little bit different and exciting to the song, especially as it’s not a collaboration we would have naturally expected, where Tom’s AD-Lib (Improvisation for those who aren’t musically tech-savvy) near the end of the track leaves the audience on a high.

The video is a great addition, showing the light and shade in the song compared to the feelings of the artist and is perfectly executed to portray the strong message of the song.

Fireflies showcases both artistes versatile, solo talents and is a great track that us Brumoters Love!

Cher Lloyd – ‘Sirens’

cher lloyd

After having a three year break away from the UK, Cher Lloyd is back and better than ever with her newest track: ‘Sirens’

Lloyd showcases a new musical direction, a more mature sound and amazing vocal talent on her newest track, which is set to feature on her second album ‘Sorry I’m Late’, which will be available only next week!

Lloyd, who became popular after finishing in fourth place on Series 7 of The X Factor UK, signed to Syco Records shortly after the final of the competition – has spent three years extending her career across the pond and now she’s back home and planning on conquering the UK charts.

And Sirens is just the track to help Lloyd achieve her goal!

Not only is Lloyd’s newest track extremely catchy, but the young star’s fantastic vocals and the track’s amazing power-ballad melody will have you playing the track on repeat for a while.

cher

And if the lyrics don’t already have your eyes watering from the emotion, then the music video will surely do that!

Especially as Lloyd has revealed that the music video for the track was heavily influenced by a childhood event in which her father was arrested when she was only five years old!

The lyrics perfectly reveal how music Lloyd has grown and improved as an artist!

And it’s great to finally see the young star moving away from Swagger Jagger and adding her name to tracks that people can relate to.

We, Brumoters have no doubt that this track will be jumping into the charts fairly soon!

Cher Lloyd is an incredible artist who has only grown over time, so we can’t wait to see what the young talent comes up with next and we hope that she has a number of amazing announcements for her incredible UK fanbase soon!

Sirens is available NOW!

Mike Dignam – ‘Hurt’

After completing an array of successful headline tours and a support slot with the incredible 5 Seconds of Summer (in both the UK and their home country Australia… If you couldn’t tell from those amazing accents).

Mike Dignam is back with his debut video and the lead single from his new EP ‘It was Written’ in the form of the incredible track: ‘Hurt’.

10374865_10152945534273265_435517952132156486_n

On his travels around the country, Mike has amassed an army of dedicated supporters, who have joined Mike during his musical journey from gigs in the park to large headline tours!

The song showcases Mike’s strong and hauntingly beautiful vocals and leaves you wanting to keep listening to find out more – meaning you want to listen to the track from start to finish.

The song is filled with emotion, especially with the repetition of ‘hurt’ during the chorus, which leaves you completely immersed within the lyrics.

The Video is a great addition to the track and works well with the song, showcasing Mike’s natural talent.

However, although we love the song, we can’t help but think that this tune is slightly too dark to join our current ‘summer anthem’ obsession.

Check out the video and Let us know what you think!

Mike is also embarking on a UK tour see the dates below and Pre-Order his EP – ‘It was Written’.

Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea – ‘Problem’

American pop beaut Ariana Grande has teamed up with the gorgeous Iggy Azalea on her newest and brilliant track ‘Problem’, which features a further collaboration with Big Sean.

Ariana Grande, 21 released the 90s influenced pop track with an urban twist on June 29th here within the UK and is already racing through the charts!

Embedded image permalink

Problem is an incredible track, which mixes Grande’s pop influence with Big Sean and Iggy Azalea’s urban element, about “the feeling of being absolutely terrified to re-approach a relationship that’s gone sour, but you want to more than anything.”

Grande perfectly conveyed the message throughout the lyrics with her immaculate vocals: “Every time you touch me and say you love me, I get a little bit breathless. I shouldn’t want it, but it’s you.”

Problem is to feature on Grande’s upcoming Sophomore studio album ‘My Everything’, which if the current success of the single is anything to go by, it will be racing up the charts very quickly after its release.

Ariana Grande is an incredible, rising young talent with a large number of amazing tracks within her arsenal! And we personally can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
