17-year-old Royals singer Lorde, has officially been named as the hottest music star under 21 by Billboard.

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, managed to beat a number of chart topping stars to reach the top spot on the annual list – With Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer in second and Justin Bieber gaining third place!

Billboard said that as well as the New Zealander’s musical releases, she had “consistently demonstrated an influence that extends well beyond music, championing an image free of touch-ups and letting young girls know that they don’t have to dress provocatively to capture the public’s attention.”

Billboard’s statement bought light back to when the young star tweeted two photos, one unedited and the other touched-up to rid her of flaws:

Rounding off the top five were Martin Garrix and Fifth Harmony (a girl group initially formed on X Factor US).

Lorde’s mum has since congratulated her by posting a photo of her daughter on Instagram, captioned: “@Billboard’s ‘Most Powerful Young Popstar for 2014’ – congratulations, Ella.”

The singer tweeted in response: “:) thanks mum (and @billboard ).”

We can’t help but agree with Billboard’s choice and we can’t wait to see what Lorde brings the world next!

Sing with Mike Dignam!

Mike Dignam impressed at his gig at the Institute in Birmingham last night, which was packed with a number of the young musician’s highly dedicated fans.

The Preston-born singer/songwriter came to the UK’s second city as part of his tour across the UK on his ‘Sing With Me’ tour.

Dignam entertained the enthusiastic crowd with a range of songs that feature on the various EP’s, he has released throughout his career this far, including ‘Keep Up Lady’ and ‘Young’.

Though the setlist was expected to be an acoustic performance, fans were thrilled to find Dignam performing with a band. This fact didn’t change much though as fans continued to sing and clap along with the fantastic tracks (as they did with the support acts), while all standing in a very relaxed environment with a shared enjoyment of the performance.

After holding a competition to allow various fans or undiscovered musicians to support him at different shows during the tour. Birmingham voted and received two great musicians in the form of John Adam and Natasha North, who both completed amazing acoustic sets, which the fans happily listened to.

Dignam, who has recently finished a tour with Tich and another support slot during 5 Seconds of Summer’s UK AND Australian tour, made sure to entertain the fans by playing a number of his older and more well-known tracks, including ‘Great Escape’.

We would definitely recommend seeing the talented young man live as his tracks are incredibly catchy and will have everyone singing along.

Brumotions gives his performance 4/5 Microphones!

5 Seconds of Summer – ‘Don’t Stop’

Every time you release new music, it gets harder for us and you know it, know it, know it!

5 Seconds of Summer are back with their second single ‘Don’t Stop’, following the incredible success of their debut single ‘She Looks So Perfect’, which gained a number one spot in 39 countries and we LOVE their newest single!

The Australian band, made up of Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood burst onto the music scene after playing an array of shows – however, they sky-rocketed to stardom after touring with British-Irish boyband One Direction.

We have been following the 5SOS journey before the lads became the pop-rock phenomenon’s they are today and it’s no surprise that they are causing hysteria, leaving girls and boys alike crying, shaking and even swooning over the teen heartthrobs who have stolen their hearts.

But 5SOS aren’t your typical boyband, but that’s why we love them, they each play their own instruments and are bringing back the revival of pop-punk music to the masses breaking the mould and being a band for everyone to enjoy!

Don’t Stop is instantly memorable and the mix of infectious lyrics and perfect vocals have left us signing along for hours on end, it will get you dancing around your room, head banging in the car and even singing it in the shower, it’s a great summer song and will leave you in a great feel good mood.

This is incredibly catchy tune teamed with the music video shows 5 Seconds of Summer’s fun personalities and the idea that they don’t take themselves too seriously as they adopt superhero persona’s to help the world: Dr. Fluke (Luke), Mike-Ro-Wave (Michael), Cal Pal (Calum) and Smash (Ashton)!

Their good deeds range from helping old ladies cross the road, litter picking, saving kittens and beating up ninja’s to save the ‘damsel in distress’ all whilst wearing tights… Oh yes girls, tights!

Don’t Stop is available NOW!

And 5SOS’ debut, self-titled album is available for pre-order!

We absolutely love what 5 Seconds of Summer are doing and if you haven’t seen the video already, check it out below:
