The news was confirmed in a statement from RCA Records, Reign Deer Entertainment, Robin Antin and Kemosabe Records on Saturday.

The statement read: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L.

“Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.”

The news was first reported by the producer Derek Butler, who shared a picture of the star, writing: “I’m still in shock and in disbelief to have confirmed the death of my childhood friend @SimoneBattle,”

Battle first rose to fame when she starred on the US X Factor in 2011 as one of the girls in Simon Cowell’s category.

But she rose to fame as a member of the five-member piece G.R.L, a second generation of the Pussycat Dolls, put together by the original creator Robin Antin.

The group, which is made up of Lauren Bennett, Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton, Paula van Oppen and Battle were on the verge of becoming household names.

Their single Wild Wild Love with Pitbull reached number six in the UK charts and their newest track, Ugly Heart was released in the UK just this week.

The cause of death is currently unknown and still under investigation.
